Prof. Josep Solé-Pareta, jointly with Prof. Ian F. Akyildiz (Geogia Tech) and Profs. Eduard Alarcón and Albert Cabellos (both UPC), cofounded N3Cat in 2008.

Prof. Josep Solé-Pareta obtained his M.Sc. degree in Telecom Engineering in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1991, both from the UPC. In 1984 he joined the Computer Architecture Department of the UPC as Assistant professor. In 2005 he got the Full Professor position there. In January 31, 2024, he has withdrawn from the academia and has been appointed as Emeritus professor at UPC. He did a Postdoc stage (summers of 1993 and 1994) at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was co-founder of CCABA and N3Cat. Currently, he is member of N3Cat and IDEAI. His research field is in Computer Networking. His publications include several book chapters and more than 350 papers in relevant research journals (> 90) and in refereed international conferences. He has participated in many European research projects. He was Local Chairman of the 25th Conference on Computer Communications (IEEE INFOCOM 2006) held in Barcelona on April 23-29, 2006, and General Chairman of the 7th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON 2005) and of the 5th. Workshop on Quality of Future Internet Services (QofIS 2004). More recently he has served as Local Chairman for the ACM NanoCom 2022 and the IFIP Networking 2023.
